Strategies for Young People with Additional Needs to be More Independent

Transition Out Of School: 4 Things We Wish We had Known!
We all want our young people with additional needs to be more independent. This talk relates the experiences and mistakes we made as a family as we guided our daughter from full-time education, through a supported internship, to work. The journey had it’s “moments” but I believe so many adults with additional needs can leave education and live a rewarding life, filled with a purpose. My aim is to inspire other parents to take action.

The book uses the Red Giraffe Route Map as a blueprint for parents to make a life plan for and with their children. This allows them to be safe, secure, and live a rewarding life when we’re no longer around to support them in the way we do now. The best way to achieve this is to develop strategies for our young people with additional needs to be more independent.
The plan divides your loved one’s life up into 4 Main Categories:
Daily Living Life Skills
Relationships with People
Purpose to the Day
Finances and Financial Security.
Take control of the future.
